Possible Salmonella Health Risks for Dogs and Cats

Recently a number of pet food and treat product recalls have been issued by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) and food manufacturers, warning that they may pose salmonella risks to pets.

If your pet suddenly exhibits diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite and/or a lack of energy (lethargy), call your veterinarian right away. It could be that your pet has consumed a recalled product and has been exposed to salmonella or other food-borne health risk, and should get treatment as quickly as possible.

The sooner you call us, the better. Also be sure to bring in the food packaging (can, box, wrapping) so we can see if it might be related to a recall.

Dogs Distinguish Dog Faces from Other Faces

We came across a fascinating article from Springer about a study involving dogs and their ability to distinguish dog faces among the faces of other animal species and also people. The purpose of the study was to determine how and if dogs recognize a wide variety of dog breeds as part of one overall species. More than 400 dog breeds (and cross-breeds) were included in the research.
