How to prevent Lyme disease in your pets

The American Lyme Disease Foundation has declared April as Lyme Disease Prevention Month because spring is when the dreaded Deer Ticks are surfacing across North America. Deer Ticks transmit Lyme disease infection (caused by a type of bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi) when they bite a dog’s skin. Once it’s in the blood stream, the Lyme disease organism is carried throughout the body, most likely settling into the joints.
